CM: Milan survive emergency to beat Fiorentina and end seven-week wait

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan finally put an end to their winless run in Serie A as a Theo Hernandez penalty was enough to overcome Fiorentina at San Siro last night.

Calciomercato.com recap the match, recalling that the first 30 minutes are incredibly balanced. Duncan missed the ball in a good position, while Terracciano denied Pulisic with a good save. Jovic and Beltran were basically non-effective in the cagey start.

Terracciano saved well from Pobega’s header from a corner, and then Jovic’s only flash opened the game up as he found Theo Hernandez’s run in behind and he brought down in the area by Parisi before the Frenchman converted the spot kick.

Maxime Lopez coming on for Arthur Melo helped Fiorentina gain in territory, while Nico Gonzalez had a shot that deflected off Tomori and hit the frame of the goal with Mike Maignan wrong-footed.

There were some appeals for a Fiorentina penalty when Parisi ended up on the ground after a tackle in the area with Calabria going in quite high, though the full-back got the ball and thus VAR did not intervene. Sottil also appealed for handball on Loftus-Cheek, but those were rejected too.

Terracciano made a good save to deny Jovic before Francesco Camarda – at 15 years, 8 months and 15 days – became the youngest player to make his debut in the entire history of Serie A and the ‘top five’ European leagues.

After a miraculous save right at the end by Maignan to thwart what looked like a certain goal from Madragora, the whistle blew. Milan won for the first time in the league since 7 October, while for Fiorentina four defeats in the last five games in Serie A.
