Mattia De Sciglio : A Lost Form Regained

By Fred Ilondo -

Since his debut for AC Milan’s first team back in 2012, Mattia De Sciglio has always been considered as the future of the club, sometimes he was even considered as the new Maldini. However, the player has been struggling for quite a while, leaving the club and the fans with disappointment.

All that was before he was called up by Antonio Conte to join the national team. De Sciglio with the Azzurri has proven himself more than useful, showed a lot of confidence and participated massively to Italy progression in the tournament making him one of the best players in the team and one of the best fullbacks in the tournament if not the best.

Is it the beginning of a rebirth for De Sciglio? Many thought about luck in the first game but with the fact that he was flawless in every game he played, we can see that it is more than that.

Mattia has shown us one thing about him with these performances, he showed that he needs a coach who can motivate him. He is a player who is at his best when he plays with motivation and with a purpose. The best way for the team to get the best from him is to first have a coach who knows how to motivate his players and also has a project, a goal that the team wants to reach. We have seen a similar case with the final of the CoppaItaliaa. We then saw Mattia De Sciglio at his best, he played his best game of the season because it was a Final and he wanted to win a trophy.

People will say that De Sciglio is improving or he is regaining his form, the truth is the talent has always been there, the right environment has not.

De Sciglio is a player with a Milan DNA, he was born to play for the Rossoneri, it would be a big mistake to release him just to see him shine somewhere else, he needs to be taken care of, to be guided, only then he will reveal his true potential just like he did at Euro 2016.
