Gattuso set for Milan return as new Primavera coach

By Oliver Fisher -

One of AC Milan’s legends is officially returning to Milan, it was confirmed on Wednesday night.

Gennaro Gattuso, for so many years a warrior in the Rossoneri midfield, is coming back to the club in a move which is both unexpected and sensational.

The move disrupts what can only be described as an established career as first team coach for the ‘Rino’ (115 games managed at Sion, Palermo, Ofi Crete and Pisa).

Massimiliano Mirabelli had already been in contact with Gattuso over the possibility of a Primavera role, but on Wednesday evening the decisive conversation took place.

Whether it’s a choice of heart is not in question: “I would not have done for any other destination. But Milan is Milan,” he told Repubblica.it.

Genoa had reportedly already approached Gattuso about becoming their new boss, but for family reasons such as his young children, he opted for this solution.

He had always hoped for a call from Milan, but maybe six months ago he would not have agreed to become coach of a Primavera side, but experiencing relegation has deeply shocked him.
