Gattuso: “We’ve got more than enough problems within the squad”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan coach Gennaro Gattuso admitted he was ‘hurt’ as his side suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of Rijeka in Croatia.

Heading east with top spot already secured, the Rossoneri went behind to a stunning free-kick from Jakov Puljic, before Mario Gavranovic doubled the lead not long after the interval.

“It hurts and we have to reflect after this,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am the one responsible today, as I chose to field this line-up. We are too fragile and we give the sensation that we cannot react to the first sign of difficulty. We have got to improve quickly.

“I made these choices to give some minutes to those who haven’t played as much and I’d do it again. On Sunday we have a very important match against Bologna, then there’s the Coppa Italia.”

The result proved irrelevant, as the Diavolo topped the group anyway.

Gattuso was asked if rumoured problems at the club, including reported financial issues, were distracting the team.

“We’ve got more than enough problems within the squad. The club situations have nothing to do with me and I don’t think there are any.”

This evening, Milan failed to get a single shot on target against Rijeka.

“We must be able to get a result and play good football. There is something good today, as we had a lot of possession, we tried to attack the space and had a lot of corners.

“Errors can happen, but we can’t seem to react or stay focused for 90 minutes.”
