GdS: Probable XIs for Milan vs. Udinese – Musah and Leao out wide in 4-4-2

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli is ready to change things up tactically and use two strikers against Udinese at San Siro tonight, according to a report.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) has published predicted line-ups for the match tonight, and Milan are expected to use a 4-4-2 system which has Luka Jovic alongside Olivier Giroud leading the line.

The midfield four from right to left is down as Yunus Musah, Rade Krunic, Tijjani Reijnders and Rafael Leao, with the American and the Portuguese duo acting as the wide players.

Mike Maignan will be in goal, with a back four of Davide Calabria, Malick Thiaw, Fikayo Tomori and Theo Hernandez in front of him.

Udinese meanwhile are expected to field a 3-5-2 but joint-top scorer Lorenzo Lucca is not expected to start. Lazar Samardzic is though, and he will aim to supply Roberto Pereyra and Isaac Success as the front two.

Probable Milan XI (4-4-2): Maignan; Calabria, Thiaw, Tomori, Hernandez; Musah, Krunic, Reijnders, Leao; Jovic, Giroud.

Probable Udinese XI (3-5-2): Silvestri; Kabasele, Bijol, Perez; Ebosele, Samardzic, Walace, Payero, Zemura; Pereyra, Success.

  1. A 4-2-3-1 will be best,
Musah and Krunic as double pivot will give a strong defense then Leao- Tijjani -Romero as the three behind Giroud,we all know our best back four

    1. It’s more of having two strikers in the box than any other thing.

The formation looks good though, it all boils down to the execution.

The work load seems too much for Giroud sometimes against two defenders. A more mobile partner will free him some space.

  2. What happened to Okafor and Adli? They were doing really well and all of sudden, Jovic who is doing absolutely nothing on the pitch and Krunic are starters ahead of them??? Pioli really wants to be sacked?

  3. I might go to jail but f”k u pioli. Jovic over okafor, Krunic over adli. no CL ,no scudetto. Sorry guys for this but untill next season goodbye guys.

  4. Last Chance Saloon for Jovic to showcase something for Milan. 4-4-2 makes sense to have two strikers in the box, but Jovic sin’t very tall 🙂 Also in this formation Leao better hustle back to help in D (although he’s worthless in that phase). Let’s see how this thing plays out.

  5. Hahaha… Good choice, pioli!
Never fail to impress me with his selection. I have to appreciate his effort to get sacked.

He wants you, media, and udinese to think that milan will play different tactic tonight…
In fact, leao will be hanging upfront, jovic moved to the right wing as the game progresses, leaving giroud as lone striker again.. hahah.. a 433 in disguise

If it is a real 442 then he will put theo on the left mid, supported by bartesaghi/florenzi in the left back.
Will be less painful to watch.
