Leonardo Bonucci makes Ballon d’Or nominees list

By Fred Ilondo -

France Football unveiled the final group of nominees for the Ballon d’Or today. Many serie A players have made the list, including the likes of Mertens, Edin Dzeko but also the presence AC Milan’s current captain, Leonardo Bonucci.

Bonucci joined AC Milan last summer in one of the most surprising moves in football history. The Italian defender has since represented the rossoneri’s revolution as his transfer was supposed to send a strong message across the league. The player was handed the captain’s armband and have been directly involved in their project.

Bonucci is the only Serie A defender to make the list. He is also the first Milan player to be nominated for the Ballon d’Or since Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2012. After a rocky start this season, this could be a much-needed boost for the defender to find his lost form in his new environment, although it’s almost certain that he won’t win it in the end.
