Longoni: Why Milan beating Juventus would be another ‘tremendously strong signal’

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will face Juventus at San Siro this evening and it should be an exciting game, seeing as the stadium is sold out. Furthermore, the situation in the standings gives it extra weight, as Andrea Longoni highlights.

The Rossoneri are no longer in first place due to Inter’s win last night, but their goal is certainly to reclaim the spot this evening. Juventus, meanwhile, are currently four points behind Stefano Pioli’s men and will be looking to close the gap.

In his latest editorial for MilanNews, Andrea Longoni shared his thoughts on the clash and why clinching all three points would be so important for Milan. Given the absences, it would be a signal like no other.

“Tonight’s match against Juventus can have a major impact on the season. Winning would move us +7 on Allegri’s team: it would be a considerable margin, although obviously not yet definitive. Conversely, a win for the Bianconeri would lead to a great balance at the top, with 3 teams practically attached.

“It’s a shame to get there in less than optimal conditions due to the absences. Let’s start with the bad luck component: Tomori is suspended in the derby and his replacement, Kalulu, gets hurt and cannot replace him. With Juve it happened in goal: Maignan is suspended and a few days later his deputy gets injured. Incredible.

“Having to use the third goalkeeper in football is a very rare event. Looking at Sportiello’s medical records, we can see that the former Atalanta player has missed a maximum of two games in a row in his career due to physical problems. Will something need to be revised at Milanello?

“In the meantime, we have to rely on Mirante, with the hope that he’s up to the task, despite the 40 years of age and the two and half years since he last played. For these reasons, winning tonight would have a sensational weight and would be another tremendously strong signal,” he wrote.

The game is scheduled for 20:45 CEST and San Siro is sold out, with 75k expected in the stands. The press box is also full, while the sale of VIP tickets will set a new record in Serie A (over 1k sold of them).

    1. @FW. You speak like a true woman. Feelings have nothing to do with the results of these games. Our players are motivated and I’m confident they will get the job done. Forza Milan.
