Mediaset: Donnarumma for Cavani swap?

By Claudio Perfetto -

Italian news outlet Mediaset is reporting that there is a chance this summer that AC Milan could swap Gianluigi Donnarumma for Edison Cavani.

Milan have recently signed Pepe Reina on a free transfer, which could signal the end of Donnarumma’s days at the club. The report from Mediaset states that Reina is indeed going to the Rossoneri under the impression that he will be the starting goalie next season. In addition to this, Donnarumma’s agent Mino Raiola has recently stated that he would like for Gigio to play for a bigger club than Milan.

PSG are thought to be interested in the player and they have the funds to make a transaction happen. Milan, however, do not just want to sell him for a big sum and they are pondering the idea of signing Edison Cavani in return. Cavani has not had a great rapport with Neymar, and according to the report he has had enough and would like to move on from the club. He has mentioned multiple times that he would like to return to Italy and play for Napoli, but his 12 million euro per season net wages would be too high for De Laurentiis.

Although they would be too high for Milan as well, the Rossoneri believe they could receive a discount on the player’s transfer fee since they will be sending Donnarumma the opposite way. Milan would also try and offload Nikola Kalinic. They would then be able to offer more competitive wages to tempt the Uruguayan.

The report clearly states that this is a far fetched idea, but one that is being contemplated by Milan. It will be a difficult swap to pull off as Chelsea and Manchester United are also thought to be after Cavani and could offer a higher transfer fee to PSG, while the Rossoneri would also need to find a suitor for Kalinic.
