Mihajlovic: “We will see if it is good wine or simple lemonade”

By Oliver Fisher -

Sinisa Mihajlovic spoke to the press shortly before his squad left for Sicily to play Palermo on Wednesday night.

The coach re-iterated the importance of staying focused and moving on from the 3-0 win over Inter.

“We definitely have get our concentration back for the game. If we do not do well in Palermo no one will remember the derby, I think with the latest results we have gained an understanding of what we can do and we must repeat the performance of the derby.”

Mihajlovic complemented the Palermo squad, but did say that if the squad performs as capable then a good result should be achieved.

“They are a good team and have good players from the midfield up, but if we play as we know we can we can win. The results help especially if you win against teams ahead of you, we have improved a lot and I hope that these results will give the lads more conviction.

“This victory should be the effect of a bottle being uncorked,” he continued, “then we will wait for tomorrow to see if there was in it champagne, a good sparkling wine or a simple lemonade.”

Sinisa was joined by Riccardo Montolivo, and the captain admitted the team has not performed to its potential so far.

“The team has great quality but we are not always been able to show that and this depends on our mental approach. I believe that these victories have given us great confidence and it must not take a step back.”

Montolivo also conveyed how important the game is in deciding the fate of the season.

“Tomorrow we will have to write another page in history. I believe that we must think of ourselves, now we are finding a good continuity, but to recover the points missed in the first half of the season needs a great deal of continuity. I think our dressing room is very united and compact with the coach, wants revenge and to show what our values are. We have pushed on from Roma.”

Ignazio Abate, who also sat in on the press conference, echoed the sentiments of the coach and captain.

“We need to be ready at Palermo, the derby is set aside but we must not forget that we are still chasing third, and tomorrow we have to get the three points. We must be ambitious and we are focused on ourselves, we will have a number of positive results, but first tomorrow is a crucial match.”
