Milan 3-3 Frosinone: Menez salvages point for Brocchi’s boys

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan claimed a dramatic late point at the San Siro against Frosinone as Jeremy Menez converted an injury time penalty.

The visitors, who started the day five points adrift of safety, had led the game through Luca Paganini and Oliver Kregl’s first half strikes.

Carlos Bacca was on hand to half the deficit, but Federico Donisi extended the lead to two again.

Luca Antonelli, fresh from the bench, made it a one goal game again before Menez converted a last gasp penalty to snatch a point.

Sassuolo take possession of sixth place with their win over Hellas Verona, moving a point ahead of Milan, while Frosinone moved within four points of Carpi.

Paganini stunned the San Siro crowd as he fired Frosinone into an early lead, beating Gianluigi Donnarumma with a shot from the edge of the area.

Milan almost responded twice before the half hour mark, firstly Bacca glanced a Balotelli free-kick wide before the Colombian then failed to control Juraj Kucka’s through ball that would have put him one-on-one with Francesco Bardi.

Bardi was in fine form, saving again from a corner as he tipped over the bar, and then from a Balotelli shot in the 18th minute.

Kucka then had a shot saved from the edge of the area, before Alex’s header from a corner was tipped onto the bar and away.

Right before the break Frosinone doubled their advantage as Kragl scored a free kick from around 30 yards that caught Donnarumma by surprise, the ball beating the 17-year-old in his bottom left corner.

Two minutes after the break Milan had a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty for hand ball, though Bardi saved Balotelli’s penalty to protect the lead.

Three minutes later the Rossoneri were back in it when Bacca was on hand to smash home a loose ball that presented itself two yards out.

However the away side quickly restored the two goal advantage, this time Dionisi was on hand to punish a mistake from Riccardo Montolivo, finishing smartly into the bottom corner from inside the area.

With just over 15 minutes left, Antonelli was on the end of Alex’s header from a corner, finishing spectacularly with a chest and overhead kick to make the score 3-2.

Milan were awarded another penalty in injury time, for another hand ball, this time from De Sciglio’s shot and this time Menez converted to even the game up.

Balotelli was almost the hero as he broke in the dying seconds, but he saw his effort from outside the area smash the crossbar.
