Udinese’s Guffanti on Zielinski: “Milan will be getting an extraordinary player”

By Oliver Fisher -

According to various sources, Milan have reached an agreement to sign Udinese midfielder Piotr Zielinski.

The player is keen on a move, and the fee is reportedly set at €18-19million.

MilanNews.it spoke to Udinese scout Riccardo Guffanti about what rossoneri fans can expect from the player.

How would you describe Zielinski from the technical and tactical point of view?

“Zielinski is a midfielder who has completed a course in my opinion, because when he arrived he had specific technical and physical qualities but had to acquire tactics for Italian football.

“Udinese found them, it was very good Andrea Carnevale (Udinese observer, ed) to sense right away his physical and technical qualities.

At first he could not understand if he was a right or left sided player. He started this journey with us and this year in Empoli I think he actually completed it.

“Initially, he could have been viewed as a midfielder playing with offensive characteristics between the [midfield and defensive] lines.

“Now, he has become a complete midfielder in effect because he has learned not to be held back. He is very good in handling the ball at his feet, and in speed he is very fast.

“He has strength, power and shoots very well from distance.”

Is he ready for the leap to Milan, and can he satisfy the demands of the Montella game?

“If he goes to Milan, I am convinced that the Rossoneri do not take a good player, but an extraordinary one.

“Montella prefers racing players but with great technical qualities. This is the great difficulty; finding someone that summarizes well these two aspects. He is very good at both.

“He is a modern footballer, and I think in Italy there is not a midfielder like him. Potentially, in Italy he is one of the strongest midfielders.”
