Montella: “Berlusconi can say what he wants, I didn’t like his advice last year”

By Piero Mannino -

In a recent interview with the Gazzetta dello Sport, coach Vincenzo Montella responded to comments from former Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi.

Berlusconi suggested he would have preferred Christian Brocchi as coach over Montella and blasted the new ownership for their approach since taking over.

“Berlusconi can say everything he wants, he has the right. The statements that have come out have to be taken in the proper context,” Montella said.

“This is my profession, and my choices must be autonomous. I like to listen to and understand advice, but I didn’t like Berlusconi’s advice last year. Meanwhile, other advice I will use and make my own.

“We have the potential to reach the Champions League, it must be our obsession, but we can’t be fooled by the standings.

“For now, it’s the derby of Bonaventura and Suso because there’s only a few of us at Milanello. They’re two important players, whom I expect a lot of, but we won’t give any advantages to Spalletti. He doesn’t need them.”
