Paqueta: “Our goal should be first place, not fourth or second”

By Oliver Fisher -

Lucas Paqueta has insisted that AC Milan’s aim is to get back to competing for top spot in Serie A sooner rather than later.

The Rossoneri narrowly missed out on a top four finish last season and are hoping to go one better in 2019-20 by returning to Europe’s elite club competition.

Gennaro Gattuso left at the end of last season with Marco Giampaolo taking charge, and Paqueta has heaped praise upon the new boss.

The Brazil international believes that a top four finish is the first logical step, before the club returns to competing for major honours.

“As of today the team have great players and achieved very good results,” he told Sky Italia.

“We deserve the Champions League, we have to return winning it by playing good football.

“We have to aim high, we shouldn’t settle for 4th or 2nd place. Our goal should be 1st place.”
