Pioli commits to three-man defence for upcoming Milan fixtures after derby defeat

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli has committed to using a three-man defence for the upcoming matches despite the system change yielding a defeat against Inter on Sunday.

Speaking during his press conference on Sunday night after the 1-0 defeat (via Milan News), the Italian coach refused to let his new idea be rubbished after one game.

It was a big surprise when the team sheet was announced and it was clear that Milan would have three central defenders and be in the 3-5-2 formation. Milan had conceded 12 goals in the three previous games, so the coach wanted to make his team more compact.

When asked whether he would continue to do this despite losing, he said: “Next few days, three-man defence for sure, then we’ll see in attack.

“The game plan was to wait for Inter in their own half of the pitch, but then once we had the ball we had to take some positions to get the team up and that didn’t work out for us.”

The coach was also asked how Milan’s poor form is affecting him, given many fans are calling for his time at the club to be brought to an end.

“The fans have every right to criticise. Everything I’ve earned I’ve done through work, passion and ideas and I’ll try to do that from now on,” he said.

  1. We are really going to play that formation again against Torino? With the same starting line -up? LOL
I think it might be time to draw the curtains on this guy.
Not only does he not have a clue how to put things right, he also utters nonsense in the press conference trying to justify another abject performance.
A fool can see that we need to set up to play the way we did in the second half.
