Player Ratings: Genoa 0-2 AC Milan – Bakayoko, Suso and Donnarumma shine

By Nikita Fesyukov -

AC Milan defeated Genoa 2-0 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris today. After an unconvincing first half, a different team came out in the second and scored two goals in the final quarter of the match.

STARTING XI

G. Donnarumma (8): Fantastic performance from Donnarumma. Made several immense match-winning saves, with the one against Veloso that could have been the equalizer being the cherry on the top.

Abate (7): Solid performance from Abate, who started off the match as a right back but after Zapata’s injury he shifted to the centre of the defence and delt very well against a pacy Kouame.

Zapata (N/A): Injured at the beginning of the match.

Mateo Musacchio (7.5): Very solid performance from the Argentine after some time on the bench. Played very intelligently and his positioning was on point.

Ricardo Rodriguez (6.5): Not an ideal performance from Rodriguez in the offensive phase but defensively he did very well and made one goal-saving tackle on Pandev in the second half.

Calhanoglu (6.5): Dull performance from Calhanoglu, especially in the first half. In the second half, he improved and created two big chances for Paqueta, who, however, did not find the back of the net.

Bakayoko (7.5): Fantastic performance from the Chelsea loanee. His physicality was immense in the middle of the field, his forward runs and pace were incredible. An all-around great performance from Bakayoko.

Paqueta (7): His first Serie A start but he looked very good. The best way to describe him is definitely with the word ‘raw’. He had some great flashy moments, created Borini’s big chance and could have scored a goal in the first half from a great shot from distance. But at times, he seemed somewhat undisciplined and too confident. But Lucas definitely has a very bright future ahead of him in our shirt.

Suso (7.5): Somewhat quiet in the first half but in the second half, he took the strings in his hands and started pulling them once again. He stood at the birth of the first goal, finding Conti well on the right flank and scored the second with a fantastic finish, with all Milanisti most definitely happy to see the Spaniard back in the line-up.

Cutrone (7): Very physical performance from Cutrone. Not too involved in the game and very isolated at times but tried to take advantage of the few chances he had. He created the second goal with a fantastic assist to Suso.

Borini (6.5): It is difficult to judge Borini’s performance. He did score a very important goal for Milan but up until that moment, his performance was not exactly sufficient. He brought little to the game in general.

SUBSTITUTES

Andrea Conti (7): Came on for Zapata to play on the right flank instead of Abate and his presence was quite clearly felt. His overlapping runs were very dangerous, despite some defensive difficulties and his fabulous and accurate pass to Borini was the highlight of his stellar performance.

Jose Mauri (7): Did not have too much time to make a difference but his defensive effort before Suso’s goal made the difference, as the tiny midfielder passed the ball to Cutrone who created the nail in the coffin for Genoa.

Castillejo (N/A)
