Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov denies AC Milan takeover rumours

By Dan Davies -

Arsenal shareholder and multi-billionaire Alisher Usmanov has denied reports linking him with a takeover of AC Milan.

Reports came out by Libero earlier in the week, expressing that Usmanov would be keen to step in and purchase AC Milan should Yonghong Li be forced to give up the club due to the inability to pay back the U.S hedge fund from Elliott Management which totals €303m.

It also mentioned Elliott’s Paul Singer is a big fan of the Gunners, and it’s this connection which has seen Usmanov express his interest in Milan.

Despite this news coming out, Usmanov’s spokesperson categorically denied the story.

“Mr. Usmanov receives many proposals to purchase football clubs, some of which are considered seriously and others which are not.”

“Mr. Usmanov has not received any proposals to acquire AC Milan.”
