Sassuolo CEO admits ‘there were offers’ for Milan-linked forward

By Euan Burns -

Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali has admitted that there were offers this summer for AC Milan-linked forward Domenico Berardi.

Speaking to DAZN after the match against Juventus on Monday night (via Milan News), the Sassuolo CEO talked about his fight to keep Berardi at the club this summer.

The Italian forward is linked with a move to a bigger club every summer and earlier in the transfer window, Milan seemed like a very viable destination for him.

A move seems highly unlikely to materialise now but Carnevali admitted that there were offers for Berardi.

“For us he is the most important player we have, it’s not true that it was a quiet summer, there have been offers,” Carnevali said.

He then went on to explain that the Neroverdi are more likely to renew his contract rather than sell him and they hope to close the negotiations very soon.

“Our will is to renew the contract, we hope to close the negotiation, for us he is a great acquisition. We have been asked for him both in Italy and abroad,” he said.

Sassuolo did not get the start to the season that they were hoping for as they lost 3-0 away at Juventus. There was a brace for Dusan Vlahovic and a debut goal for Angel Di Maria.

    1. He’s an important, talismanic player for their club and they don’t need the money having just made a fortune off Scamacca… they can ask as much as they want to.

      1. They can ask gazillion for any garbage they have, that doesn’t mean its worth that much nor does it mean anyone is dumb enough to offer that much.

Sassuolo is well known for overpricing their players, there is a running joke that they are selling their kits for 30M a pop. That is basically their modus operandi, everything is grossly overpriced, and they sit and wait for someone desperate or dumb enough to offer close to 2/3 of it and they start haggling. If they sell one player per transfer window they are all singing and dancing. Next transfer window rinse and repeat.

No player is important for Sassuolo, they are a club with zero ambitions other than growing a few players that they can sell at idiotic amounts of money. That’s it. They are basically a farm for overpriced mediocrities.

        1. I’d love to know what your plan for running Sassuolo would be. They develop players sought after by many clubs, only sell for big prices and consistently outperform their spending level – basically the model of how a club should be run.

          1. Club with zero ambition to win anything. Like I said, they exist to make and sell players, not to win. They are a farm, not a club.

          2. @Shiva that’s virtually most clubs in Serie A and Europe in general. Most clubs are feeder and only a few actually compete for trophies. This is basically the status quo and that’s just disrespectful to say it’s a farm and not a club. Most smaller clubs can’t compete with the financial muscle so they have no choice but to sell. They may have a golden cohort from time to time and possibly win something but that’s few and far between because bigger clubs always snatch up their prized players. Ambition is often only as big as one’s pockets

          3. Atalanta is the same, but they have the ambition and they are trying to grow. Winning, being competitive, participating in Euro competitions, that is what brings respect, popularity, crowds, and money.

Unlike them, Sassuolo would much rather, stay in Serie Ass, because if they set one foot outside of it, it would become painfully obvious just how subpar their overpriced players are. They don’t care about the growth, they don’t want to compete with the big boys, they just want to buy cheap, sell overpriced and management can line their pockets. That doesnt deserve respect, it deserves loathing.

          4. If all clubs would aim to win the league, I’d estimate 75% of football clubs would go under as they wouldn’t have the resources to do that.

That’s why most clubs are happy to be in TOP10. Some are even superhappy to NOT relegate after the season. Life isn’t fair and not all clubs are created equal. That’s life. Deal with it.

          5. That is the very reason they only have a handful of supporters… Happy to be in top 10 means lack of ambition, lack of vision, no growth.

Their owners/management may be happy to make money and accomplish nothing, but that still doesn’t change the fact that they are a farm not football club and they are loathing worthy.

          6. @Shiva do u even hear yourself or read what u write before you post it? Lol
Atalanta is very similar to Sassuolo. If a bigger club comes they’ll be forced to sell because they can’t afford to keep their best players like ummm KESSIE, Romero,Bastoni, Conti, Gagliardi etc. And u still can’t compare Atalanta with Sassuolo. Atalanta has twice bigger wage budget than Sass. It is literally the reason they’re bettering Sass it’s because they’re a bigger club financially (which is what I said, ur ambition is as big as your pocket). So even Atalanta can out muscle them if they wanted to. The reason why Sassuolo asks for high prices for their players is the very reason you’re saying about being competitive ….so they can keep.them.and try to compete which to me they are doing. It’s hard to break into top 7 when everyone has more money than you. So if teams want to overpay for their players, they’re not gonna say no. Not even big clubs would think differently

Lay off the crack buddy 😂😂😂

    1. I take exceptions to u calling krunic useless ,that guy has pulled up his socks enough for milan when needed ,I don’t think milan who won the last scudetto has any useless player if not they won’t have won the league ,every player contributed in their own way

      1. Agree with that, all three of the mentioned players have done nothing but work and put in effort for Milan and each is a Serie A winner for a reason.

    2. Berardi is a mediocrity, that can only play against Serie Ass relegation fodder. You’ve seen him in NT, he is like deer in headlights.

But the fact that you are calling Krunic useless tells me how much you know ball, so me explaining this, is probably wasted on you.

      1. @Shiva you clearly don’t watch Serie A or are a plain and simple Berardi hater because your statement that he only plays against relegation fodder couldn’t be more far from the truth. Berardi has scored or assisted against all the top 7 teams last year: Milan 1G, Inter 1G 1A, Juve 2A, Napoli 2A, Roma 2A, Atalanta 1G, Lazio 1G 1A.
I couldn’t care less what he does for the NT, what matters w is what he can provide us with. Time to put down the crackpipe😂😂😂

        1. He can provide us with d*ck. If he can’t perform in NT, just imagine what would happen to him in UCL. It would be pronhub worthy.

And if you think our only ambition should be Serie A$$, then we have nothing more to talk about. UCL is where its at, and Berardi would flop there worse than Lakaka in Chelsea.

Berardi is mediocre at best. Its obvious to our Management, its painfully obvious to everyone on any other platform, it’s just this website where people with zero ball knowledge drool over someone like Berardi or Belotti. It’s sad really.

          1. “Berardi is mediocre at best.”

If mediocre players score double digits each year and provide +10 assists as well, then what does it take to be a good one? I believe Berardi & Leao had pretty similar stats last season yet Leao was the MVP. So does this mean the Serie A’s best players only medicore ones?

          2. The man just compared Berardi to Leao and wants to be taken seriously.

Single Leao’s pubic hair has more ball talent than Berardi and you dare to compare them? The audacity!

Look at it this way, Berardi was linked with Milan, so any other clubs enquiring about him would have been reported immediately. Besides Juve making an inquiry and nothing else, no one even attempted to make an offer for him. Not a single club in the entire world. That should tell you much he is valued and what everyone that knows anything about ball think of him. I would call him a hasbeen, but he never was to begin with, so… He is not even that. He is talentless donkey that can only “shine” when there is zero pressure in mediocre Serie Ass clubs.

          3. “The man just compared Berardi to Leao and wants to be taken seriously.

Single Leao’s pubic hair has more ball talent than Berardi and you dare to compare them? The audacity! ”

LOL. Well… These kinds of comments don’t help you getting taken more seriously than before either. That “level of discussion” might work in the kindergarten but elsewhere? Not so much.

          4. Hahahah ok I should have read this one first before the one at the top.

I’ll say this, you ahve absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Bare facts staring you straight in your face and u choose to ignore it. U said he’s only good against relegation fodder, I show u his stats to show otherwise and dismantled your argument. now you’re on about UCL like we lit it up last year😂😂😂😂 I’m also 100% sure u can’t kick a ball 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lay down the crack pipe brother. Cain is a hell of a drug

  1. Calling Berardi garbage or mediocre is plain silly…we need RW output. He averages 15 goals and 10 assists per season, that would take us up a level. I don’t give a damn about his output for Italy, John Barnes was never great for England but he was a great for Liverpool. Berardi improves Milan….fact

    1. Thank you. Finally some common sense in the comments section. He is a very very good RW which we need.for the squad to be complete along with a mid. Can’t get much better than Berardi in Serie A

      1. Problem is people have this rose tinted view of the premier league and assume that because he’s at Chelsea and unwanted then Ziyech Is good enough for Milan. The truth is Ziyech has underperformed and unimpressed at Chelsea. He’s better than we have currently and yes he’s cheaper than Berardi but there is no question which is the better option for Milan. By recruiting both Origi and Ziyech, there is for me too many wild card unknowns

        1. True. Yea I rated Ziyech at Ajax, he was good but hasn’t quite progressed further. It’s the same way the comments section here was littered with people preferring Asensio over Berardi when stats clearly show who’s better. Berardi knows the league and sometimes when building to get to the top you need to do well in the league and cup, small steps. I dont mind either tbh but prefer Berardi way more for obvious performance reasons

          1. 100% my friend, our focus should be Serie A retention and domination, Berardi would achieve that. He’s too expensive sadly but Sassuolo have players who are desirable and while the prem teams can throw 60m on average talent, why would Carnevali not exploit that..if we could afford it I’d take Berardi, Raspadori and Traore off their hands….they are good at developing talent.

The podcast was good today and the boys were saying how we look a better team with Rebic at no9, I’ve always thought this and think Raspadori could be the future there….

  2. It is funny to see AC Milan fans argue & keep mocking each other. Conclusion : Sassoulo asking 30-35m euro to sell berardi and no way AC Milan will pay that amount for player already more than 26 years old. Except he is young player below age 24 maybe AC Milan will consider.
