Tuttosport: Pursuit of Juventus duo on hold – the answer may already be at Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s potential move for a centre-back in the January window is dependant on Mattia Caldara’s return, a report claims.

We recently reported that Milan will almost certainly try and sign a new defender in the upcoming market after the injury sustained by Leo Duarte.

An official club statement last weel confirmed that that Duarte underwent an operation at the Alfredson Tendon Clinic in Umeå to treat an achilles tendon issue.

Calciomercato.com meanwhile stated that Mattia Caldara is unlikely to feature before Christmas, meaning Alessio Romagnoli, Mateo Musacchio and the inexperienced Matteo Gabbia are the only viable options for the time being.

According to Tuttosport though – as cited by MilanNews.it – the reinforcement could already be at Milanello after all.

Caldara is seemingly nearing his return after a positive outing with the Primavera over the weekend, during which he played for 90 minutes and has subsequently continued training with the first team.

Pioli apparently has the idea of being able to play him for a few minutes in the league by the end of the year before he seriously competes for the spot alongside Romagnoli.

The paper continues by adding that Caldara is looking forward to repaying the trust of the club, which has continued and continues to believe in him. So maybe Demiral or Rugani will not be needed after all.
