Vitiello: Ibrahimovic likely to become an adviser to Cardinale and Redbird

By Isak Möller -

Zlatan Ibrahimovic had a meeting with AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale last night and some indications have already emerged regarding the discussed role. As per a report, the Swede could become an adviser at RedBird.

Ibrahimovic retired at the end of last season, thanking the Milan fans at San Siro, and he has been linked with a return ever since. After months of talks, it seems the 42-year-old is getting closer to exactly that, destined to work closely with Cardinale.

According to Antonio Vitiello for MilanNews, the role that has filtered from yesterday’s meeting is adviser or consultant to the owner (RedBird). The meeting lasted for two hours and it’s clear that Ibrahimovic and Cardinale have great respect for each other.

Ibrahimovic wants guarantees regarding his role and that is what the parties are working on currently. He has no intention of simply being a brand ambassador, he wants to make a difference not just for the Milan players but also for the management.

The dialogue between Ibrahimovic and Cardinale, as the report concludes, has been ongoing for three months and now we are approaching the end. There are still a few things to figure out, but it seems the Swede will be appointed by RedBird and not Milan, even though the Rossoneri will be his main focus.

  1. Idk what ibra will advise cardinal about.
I consider Ibra a smart dude but when it comes to management and business in general. Idk if he has a knack for that.
Ibra is more of a feet on the ground kinda guy.
He might make a good scout or a motivator of sort, passing on his work mindset..
    Idk

    1. “Idk what ibra will advise cardinal about.”

Haven’t you read this site and the comments? Experts here have said many, many times that Americans (especially Cardinale) know NOTHING about football and they only care about money. So maybe Zlatan will be there to educated Cardinale how our football is actually a ball instead of an egg-shaped “ball” Americans throw around etc.? 🙂

  2. Does anyone know if he has a coaching license?

I know it’s far too soon for him to replace Pioli but he needs one even to be part of the coaching staff and with one he can justify going out the coach. I’m not sure how being an “advisor to Cardinale” will help the squad on the pitch.

  3. The whole thing doesn’t even make sense. If he’s an advisor what experience exactly does he have to carry out the role?? The only way I see it working out is some sort of on-the-job training where he’d get a feel for business dealings and then later on be promoted as a director (which would be him having an important role). But the timing is just terrible.

If he’s coming back as a team manager, it reflects poorly on Pioli (inability to control and motivate the team) and on management (relying on a player/former player rather than the coach you’ve hired). Once again the timing on that would.be terrible. And it players would probably see this as a sign of weakness

  4. They didnt take advice from the greatest defender of all time that built back up this club from a shit show, didn’t listen enough because the Muricans let our best players leave for chump change in relative terms over minute salary disparities and chose to replace them with the Wish versions of those players.

Look where we are now, weak midfield, our GK hurt 1/4 of the year minimum, no goals, defense was porous.

All the scouting doesn’t work when the money required isn’t spent and you entrust people that never won jackshot in this game.

Maldini had more knowledge in his pinky than all those tools put together.

    1. Not just the greatest defender, he’s the most symbolic player that ever worn Milan jersey. He breathes Milan. His family bleeds Milan. If a single person that knows and lives the value of Milan, that’s him. Any club owner in the world would pay extra millions and millions to get a man like him running the club.

      1. Don’t worry they got the next best thing….Ibra….for whatever reason I suppose. It’s so ironic because it was a signing they (Elliot/Scaroni) didn’t want in the first place due to the youth/wage policy but Maldini convinced them it was the right thing to do given the situation they were in and to instill the values of the club. And then gets fired lol wow. And the person to replace him is the person he pushed to sign against the odds

  5. They can throw whatever title they want at him. Ibra is the Beating Stick. So instill the fear of God on these kids after a Udinese-level display.
