CM: 15 days, two holes and several targets – Milan looking to complete their mercato

By Oliver Fisher -

There are 15 days left until the end of the summer transfer window and AC Milan are still looking for a couple more pieces to complete the squad.

Calciomercato.com report that priority has shifted to signing a new midfielder after Franck Kessie’s departure because Tommaso Pobega and Yacine Adli have different characteristics while Tiemoue Bakayoko seems to be outside of the plans.

Today the hottest names are those of Raphael Onyedika of FC Midtjylland – valued at €7m with a negotiation ongoing – and Jean Onana of Bordeaux. Adrian Tameze and Alberti Sambi Lokonga were proposed, but do not seem concrete options.

Milan did not get their hands on Sven Botman so have been probing other centre-backs since. Maldini and Massara are working on dry loans or loan deals with an option to buy.

Evan N’Dicka of Eintracht Frankfurt remains complicated given the valuation of €15m and the fact his deal runs out at the end of the season thus meaning a loan is not possible, but he is the dream target.

PSG’s Abdou Diallo could be the more concrete alternative, as could Tottenham’s Japhet Tanganga but he is not considered a priority. With 15 days until the market closes, Milan remain busy.

  1. I still dont get the idea of releasing Romagnoli for free but now even bother to find a new defender and willing to spend money..

    1. 3M€ for the 3rd backup-CB? Some clubs may afford to pay their reserve-goalies 12M€/y but due to the recent FFP-adventures Milan cannot “waste” money on backup-player’s backup. Therefore the right thing was to let Romagnoli go to his favorite club.

        1. No it’s not lol. And I don’t even like Romagnolli but would take him over Gabbia. Now we will pay more than that for a back up. When you factor in the transfer fee for a new player plus that salary – that new “backup” player will cost more than Romagnolli. His point was IF we didn’t have the intention to spend $h on a defender we should have just kept Romagnolli.

          1. 6M€/y for a 4th choice isn’t a lot? Well… M&M seems to think so. And that’s all that matters here.

If they’ll buy a replacement, the idea is that he will someday be a starter – and bypass Kjaer as the 3rd option soon. So it’s also an investment into the future. Unlike Roma would have been.

          2. That is why Milan only looking for loan and the salary will be lowered due to growth decree. Romagnoli is not covered by growth degree.

  2. Yea Shoko seriously! That is BY FAR our BIGGEST hole!!! Unless Pioli is willing to play either CDK or Rebic there (they’re both capable)… but whatever he does, he needs to keep Saele and Messias on the bench. they are NOT part of our best 11 — EVER.

  3. Oh, and as for the article — yes, Ndicka would be a dream. Did any of you watch the Super Cup match he played vs Madrid? He man handled Fede Valverde a bunch of times. He looks like a beast. Really strong and speedy. What a talent.
