AC Milan have secured their first victory of the new season with a 1-0 home win over newly promoted Brescia. Giampaolo spoke with DAZN after the game via MilanNews.
Giampaolo was initially probed regarding his decision to start Andre Silva over Piatek. “For every single game, I have the right to choose my players. For this game, I chose Andre Silva and Bennacer. Milan have a lot of strong players to chose from.”
“I do not know if Silva is leaving the club, but he is a professional and he is available so I will play him, when I need to.”
Andre Silva played from the start, until the sixty minute mark. He was well positioned and lively but his passing failed him and ultimately his impact on the game was minimal.
Eventually the Portuguese player would make way for Piatek. The Polish striker would also struggle initially but in time found his stride and became a threat. Twice the goal seemed imminent but heroics from the Brescia keeper would deny him.
“Piatek is a great player, but if he doesn’t play the world will not end. He must focus on giving his best for Milan and then I chose who plays. One week I might not be impressed, and others I will be. You must always fight for your spot.”
DAZN went on to ask Giampaolo about his thoughts on the game overall, as well as Paqueta. “We have a lot of work ahead. We did good things and minimized risk, even when we lost control of the game for a bit, we found ourselves again. We need to work together.”
Giampaolo made a strange comment regarding Paqueta. “In my view, he must learn to be less Brazilian and more concrete.” He may be alluding to the player’s flashiness but seems to feel he is not ready to play from the start yet.
