CM: 80 minute wait for eight touches – Gimenez’s World Cup prediction looking bleak

AC Milan striker Santiago Gimenez claimed that he would be the top scorer at the World Cup this summer, but that seems increasingly unlikely.

Before the World Cup, Gimenez was full of confidence, stating that they would win the tournament and he would star heavily. However, it has taken more than three hours of game time to see him enter the field.

Gimenez’s forgettable summer

As Calciomercato.com reports, he entered the field after 80 minutes and played the final 17 minutes, but his impact was minimal. Indeed, he only made eight touches of the ball, including three passes – of which only two were on target.

Mexico were seeing out the game, so it was unlikely that he was ever going to really contribute to a lead being extended. Nevertheless, it seems difficult to see him reaching the figures needed to be the top scorer at this tournament, as he proclaimed he would.

Perhaps, as the report suggests, there will be a chance in the final group game, with Mexico already through. So, changes could be made to allow the starters a rest. Maybe then he can make an impact.

A strong World Cup would’ve helped the Rossoneri earn a decent fee this summer for him, but that seems increasingly unlikely.
