Among the positive notes from last night’s win against Cagliari was Yacine Adli’s first start for AC Milan in almost a year, a chance he grabbed with both hands.
Adli had not started a game for Milan in 346 days heading into last night, with that last occasion being the away match against Hellas Verona in which he was taken off at half-time.
The Franco-Algerian rose to the occasion in Sardinia, looking confident on the ball in a deep-lying playmaker role standing in for the injured Rade Krunic, keeping things ticking and trying to do his bit defensively too.
ScoutCalcio recalled the numbers from Adli’s performance against Cagliari, starting with the fact he had an impressive 85 touches and went 71/73 on completed passes, which is a fantastic 97%.
He created one chance, had one pass into the final third and was 8.9 on accurate long balls (89%). He won 100% of the three tackles he went into, adding three blocks and three recoveries too showing his defensive game.
Adli also won 3/4 ground duels he engaged it, but did lose the one that led to Cagliari’s opener from Luvumbo, showing there is still the margins for growth.
Considering how long he sit on the bench, that was a good display despite the error he made. Clearly he needs more time, and Krunic injury might be his moment to bloom
Well… It was two Cagliari-players against Adli in that situation so one could ask where were the others. Not 100% on Adli.
I agree with you
How can you keep a captain of a former team on the beach for so long saying he wasn’t ready are you trying to win CL ? Even top coach don’t treat players like our coach I know for sure he will be sacked for now, he use let leao and Co win matches for him that’s why , they don’t defend after loosing the ball or play very causal
How many times Benna or Tonalli lost the ball that after was a goal for the opposite team?
And at last the error was from Theo for not covering his position, he has 25% of culprit but he can’t cover two men’s at the same time.
After all this stats I will think about it hi has to be him or Krunic in that position
It’s nice to have a DM with some vision that can start the counter with some nice forward passing.
That’s what I think. Those who trash Adli can’t be that old. I don’t see how anyone who watched Pirlo play in that role for so long would not understand how important a ‘quarterback’ is in the midfield.
I said last pre season after his impressive games we should play him there. With two units like Ruben and Reijnders he could excel
Interesting you guys went with ScoutCalcio this time instead of Fbref 🤔 . According to Fbref he had 92% pass rate (72/78) and I think I’m leaning towards that for consistency with previous data and also recall more than 2 stray passes in the game from him. That being said anything above 90% for that role is phenomenal. What is most impressive than pass rate is the types of passing on display and the progressive yardage he was able to achieve. Vastly more than anyone in a single game and overall for the season which is quite incredible. However, still needs to work in his progressive receptions (being saying this since he was at Bordeaux) , his defence of course, aerial duela and positioning. Another thing he has to realize is that he doesn’t need to progressive carry, let Reinjders and RLC do that. Interesting to see if he starts vs Lazio and how he plays
