AC Milan want to secure Champions League qualification and reinvest the money to give Massimiliano Allegri a top striker.
That is according to La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) who recall that Milan would have already filled the major gap in their squad if Jean-Philippe Mateta’s knee hadn’t forced the management to cancel the agreement already reached with Crystal Palace.

Given that Mateta hasn’t had surgery yet, a resurgence of interest is out of the question. It’s also true that Milan will sign a Champions League-calibre striker, and their search will begin with names they’ve been keeping tabs on for months.
The main name
Serhou Guirassy is the ‘favoured’ option. Since 2019-20, he’s racked up double figures for goals scored per season, and has reached peaks such as 30 goals for Stuttgart in 2023-24, or 38 last season, when he also played for Borussia Dortmund in the Club World Cup.
He’ll turn 30 in a couple of weeks, so he’s not a long-term investment, but rather a player to try to win immediately. He’s essentially an Adrien Rabiot for the attack. He’s been at Dortmund for a year and a half and cost just €18m because of his Stuttgart release clause. Now, that clause is €70m.

That’s a price Milan can’t afford, but the club would never pay for a 30-year-old anyway. The key factor to consider for a significant discount, however, is Guirassy’s desire to try a new professional adventure after stints in Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga.
His trophy cabinet is woefully empty, and he’s realised that winning a trophy while playing in the same league as Bayern is extremely difficult. That’s why the top scorer in last season’s Champions League is ready to be seduced by the Rossoneri.
Milan have been following him for some time, even attempting to land him when he was at Stuttgart. Now his name is back on the radar because he has the perfect profile to be the reinforcement Allegri wants with his finishing, hold-up play, size and movement.
The other ideas
If RedBird Capital decide to make an investment and the conditions materialise, Guirassy would be seriously considered. Otherwise, there are alternatives ready such as Mateo Retegui, who was targeted before he moved from Atalanta to Al Qadsiah last summer.
Just like for Guirassy, there would be the temptation to join Milan, perhaps after having played (as the Azzurri fans hope) a starring role in a World Cup with Italy. The former Genoa player is considered a key player by Al Qadsiah, but his own desires will weigh heavily on the continuation of the marriage.

Darwin Nunez’s position is different: three and a half years ago, he was bought by Liverpool for €100m and has now been left off the Saudi Pro League roster by Simone Inzaghi’s Al-Hilal. He is eager to return to Europe and could become an option.
Nicolas Jackson is another name. Igli Tare spoke with his agent and Chelsea last summer, he’s played very little at Bayern Munich so far and won’t be bought for €67m. The Blues will loan him out again, with a conditional option to buy. He could become the classic ‘opportunity’ for Milan.

Retegui hhhh
Why are Milan only looking at these greedy old journeymen? Surely there are some exciting younger prospects in South America?
We need someone who can deliver from start.
true but retegui and nunez are finished . how about kean and guirassy?
Retegui finished? Based on what?
No we only intetedted 30+ year old and with injury
So we didn’t sign Guirassy before he went to BVB but we’re gonna try to sign him now that he’s worth more and under contract? LOL!!! okay…
Exactly/ I never understood why we didn’t go for him a couple of years ago 🤦♂️
We had to sign benzema if we were going to go for the title this season. Unfortunatly, we will only be competing for 2nd or 3rd..
Meanwhile Hojlund is on the scoresheet again today.
