90min: Milan face battle to keep Camarda – Liverpool, Man City and Real Madrid keen

Francesco Camarda made history last night by becoming the youngest ever player in Serie A history but AC Milan are ‘facing a battle’ to keep hold of him.

According to 90min, a number of top European clubs are keeping an eye on Camarda who can sign a professional deal next March when he turns 16. The striker came on with a few minutes left against Fiorentina last night, becoming the youngest debutant in both Milan and Serie A history.

Milan have promised Camarda ‘a huge role in their future’ but other teams are circling to try and potentially insert themselves. Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City have all spoken to Camarda’s family regarding a move to England, for example.

Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund are also looking to sign him too. However, Camarda is a boyhood Milan fan and his ‘family are settled’ meaning it is likely he will sign a contract with the Rossoneri when he turns 16.

  1. Indeed it is hard to understand why milan would advertise him more by giving him his debut.
Surely get the kid signed up before playing him

  2. If the kid has any ambition at all, he’ll know better than going to England. Not a chance any of those teams will give him a real chance. City won’t even play guys they paid 50 mil for, and Chelsea is a literal dumpster fire of rotating players who never work out. Absolute worst environment for a young player

    1. This is true.

I don’t believe any kid who is what we hope Camarda is leaves Milan. I genuinely don’t mean that vindictively, as disappointing as it would be if he did leave (and become world class).

It’s about the mentality to put a career first which is displayed most recently by Bellingham. He went to the destination most likely to develop him as a player, he didn’t chase the riches or prestige of signing for one of the powerhouse clubs in England (who wanted him). He developed his game at Dortmund (in addition to playing at a World Cup) and then moved to Madrid as a pro who would warrant best 11 selection.

Who is actually better placed to develop 16 to 18 yo Camarda than what Milan is? We all saw how far off the pace he was. I was surprised that even a 15 year old could look that slight next to soccer players. The reality of the situation is that he is not going to any serious destination to be more than a regular U19-level player for at least the next 18 to 24 months. Sure, he may get the occasional call to the seniors bench, as he just did and which club is going to equal Milan and the San Siro in this regard (maybe 2 or 3) , but short of a miracle in his physical development, he’s not being moved to a senior squad next year. Remember that Bartesaghi and Simic are 2005 born whereas Camarda is 2008 born.. Yes, Pioli’s non-selection of young players has been frustrating but he’s already on borrowed time and Camarda is already getting special treatment.

It seems to me that there is a pretty clear pathway to the #9 at Milan, too. Odds are that we are not in a position to sign anyone that is so good that 20-21 yo Camarda isn’t pushing for the role (assuming that he matches the development of someone like Hojlund).

It would be extraordinarily short-sighted to leave, a decision of someone who probably doesn’t have the mentality to be world class.

Ask Messi about how much of an advantage it is for a club to be prepared to build around you as the individual. Then go and ask Zlatan about his time at Barcelona and what it was like to be the outsider. Del Piero and Totti can probably also shed some light on being the main man.

  3. I remember another boyhood fan of Milan who wanted to play for Milan above all, and is now waiting out his gambling ban at Newcastle. So I don’t rely on Camarda being a fan in order to sign his professional contract with Milan, but more like being at home.

  4. “Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City have all spoken to Camarda’s family regarding a move to England, for example.”
Cheeky tw@ts! This should be illegal!
