A Bola: Milan trying to lower amount Leao owes to Sporting CP – the situation

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are trying to lower the total compensation amount that Rafael Leao owes to Sporting CP, according to a report from Portugal.

According to reports from A Bola (via MilanNews), Milan are trying to lower the amount of compensation that Leao has to pay to the Lisbon side following the unilateral termination exercised by the player in 2018 after the assault from some ultras at their training ground.

The Portuguese source mentions that two meetings have already taken place between the parties, but without having reached an agreement over the amount because the president of Sporting CP – Frederico Varandas – wants to receive the entire €19m amount to which his club are entitled.

However, Sporting do appreciate Maldini’s recent declarations to La Gazzetta dello Sport during which he said that Milan ‘have nothing to do with’ the Sporting case, which the Portuguese club believe will help to put pressure on the issue given renewal talks are of paramount importance.

  1. Obviously leaving sporting was not a Leao only decision, i would guess his super agent had a say in this.
Why not Mendes pays this penalty? Where was this super agent when his client breached his contract with Sporting and signed for Lille? Did Leao agree the new contract by himself and then signed it alone? Naaaah..

  2. It still makes no sense to how an employee can be assaulted at work then leave because he isn’t safe then the courts penalize him for breaking contract? Sounds like BS to me.

    1. I remember reading that Leao wasn’t even at the scene (pitch) when the “fans” attacked. So he was never in immediate danger anyway. And a contract is a contract. They must be respected.

  3. I believe that there is still an appeal to be made and we will see what that does. This may be an attempt to put this ugly scene behind everybody. Sporting CP should accept some blame, so should Lille, Leao, and Milan. That is around 5M each. But possession is 9/10ths of the law.
