AC Milan, or simply Milan, are one of the most popular clubs in Italy. Founded in 1899, the club has won the UEFA Champions League seven times, with the last being in 2007.
It is one of the biggest Italian clubs in football history. Despite being Italian, Milan makes use of the best players. If you regularly follow Premier League transfers, then you will realise the club loves to buy players from the EPL.
Here are some of the biggest players who moved from the EPL to Milan…
Beckham is top on the list of players that joined AC Milan from the EPL. Not only did he play with an English club before joining the Rossoneri, but he is also English. He was born in the ’70s and he caught his parents’ love for Manchester United in his childhood, but he didn’t start playing with the Red Devils until 1991.
He played with United until 2003. From there, he moved on to play with other clubs like Real Madrid, LA Galaxy. In October 2008 and November 2009, LA Galaxy loaned Beckham to Milan. AC Milan News and other news sites had it that he was trying to secure a permanent transfer to Milan. That didn’t work out though.
Dalot is another EPL player that has caught AC Milan’s interest. Jose Diogo Dalot Teixeira is a footballer born in Portugal in 1999. In the early days of his career, he was seen playing for his country. In 2017, the player signed with Porto. Currently, he is an EPL player who plays with Manchester United. He signed with the English club in 2018. This year, in October, Dalot was loaned to AC Milan. He will remain with the team till June 2021.
Another player that plays with Milan currently is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He is a Swedish striker of course, but it must be remembered that he also spent time in the Premier League with Manchester United.
He was first loaned to Milan for the 2010-11 Season and in 2011, he signed permanently, leaving a year later for PSG and later rejoining the club in 2020. Zlatan Ibrahimovic recently vowed to continue playing football until he couldn’t play anymore. His return to Milan is a fulfilment of that vow.
Yet another former EPL player that moved to Milan at some point in his career is Mathieu Pierre Flamini. Flamini started his football career in Marseille where he was born. He played with his local club in 2003 and in 2004, he signed with Arsenal where he stayed for four years.
He suffered a serious injury in the UEFA Champions League in 2008 and he then bid the club goodbye and moved to ACMilan in May 2008. However, after five years, the player returned to Arsenal.
Why do Milan have so much interest in former Premier League players?
There are so many other EPL players that played with Milan at one time or another. Milan has an interest in English players that is not dying anytime soon, as seen by recent links to the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Davinson Sanchez and Olivier Giroud. This must be because of the quality of the players and the reputation of the league.
