Tammy Abraham was the hero of the hour for AC Milan as he scored a late winner against Red Star, but he has admitted that it felt like it might not be his night.
Milan made it four wins on the spin in the Champions League by beating the Serbian champions, yet it was far from an easy night as they required a winner in the closing stages of the game.
The Rossoneri took the lead in the first half when Rafael Leao collected a ball over the top from Youssouf Fofana and finished well, but Radonjic came off the bench to score a rocket of an equaliser in the second half.
Just as it looked like the game was drifting towards a draw, Abraham was there in the right place at the right time to lash home a rebound as Francesco Camarda came close to scoring again, making it 2-1 which it would finish.
Abraham spoke to Milan TV after the full-time whistle to give his analysis of what was a very difficult three points but a welcome win nonetheless. MilanNews transcribed his comments.
A second consecutive Champions League game with a goal for you. It almost seemed like the ball didn’t want to go in…
“It seemed to be one of those games where you want to score at all costs but the ball didn’t want to go in. I believed in myself, in my team-mates. It was all about being in the right place at the right time, and fortunately for me the ball went in and I scored.”
What can you improve on in the future?
“I think the team must support each other not only in training, but also in the game. We are an incredible group, everyone knows it, and we have to show it. We have to attack and defend as a team, be one.
“I think we will improve day by day. Today was a very important victory. In the end the most important thing was the victory, and we got it.”
Is the top eight now the target in the Champions League?
“I believe in it. We are Milan, we are a strong team. We want to win every competition we play. We just have to work and move forward as teams and we will achieve it.”
Drop the act, nobody believes it. Not even your own coach.
The guy was invisible and should’ve scored a goal earlier. Lucky the VAR-room closed their eyes when he pulled the shirt of the Red star player before scoring. Trying to act as a team player after robbing a penalty from the penalty taker is still haunting me
Fonseca’s team in not good enough. They invest enough money to get better player than we have but invest in players like Musah, Chukwueze, Emerson, RLC etc.
Calabria will probably not be here next season. That is one homegrown player less.
If RLC gets chances, why didn’t Maldini get chances? He would’ve made at least the same impact in matches, is younger and is homegrown. Bring him back even if we don’t get him for 6 million he is still cheaper and does more than RLC for the team.
.
nah, you forget that Maldini’s shadow is too much for them to handle, not to mention having his son constantly blare the name everywhere. too much controversy!
IF maldini played games like RLC we would have the lists completed and at least the same output.
