AC Milan’s 2022 summer mercato: All the official signings and details

The 2022 edition of the summer transfer window has come to a close and AC Milan ended up making quite a few reinforcements. In total, the Rossoneri brought in five news players and down below is the full summary.

Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara received some criticism throughout the summer and there were a few question marks. However, in the end, reinforcements were brought in and it’s clear they focused on making targeted signings.

Down below is a summary of Milan’s summer window with all the details you need to know, courtesy of Transfermarkt and various sources.

Divock Origi

Deal: Free transfer.
From: Liverpool.

The Belgian was the first signing of the summer window, not counting the redemptions, and his arrival was well-known since the end of May. Given his experience, getting him on a free transfer was a good move by Maldini and Massara. It remains to be seen what he can do on the pitch.

Charles De Ketelaere

Deal: Permanent transfer.
Fee: €32m, €3m in bonuses, 15% resale clause.
From: Club Brugge.

The negotiations took forever, yet he was the second signing for Milan this summer. It’s a significant investment for a club like Milan but from what we have seen on the pitch thus far, the Rossoneri made the right move.

Malick Thiaw

Deal: Permanent transfer.
Fee: €5m, €2m in bonuses.
From: Schalke 04.

Pioli made it clear very early that a centre-back was needed given the exit of Alessio Romagnoli. After missing out on a few targets, Milan decided to go all-out for Thiaw and managed to snatch him for a good price as well given his age (21).

Aster Vranckx

Deal: Initial loan deal.
Fee: €2m loan, €12m option to buy, 15% resale clause.
From: Wolfsburg.

Another youngster brought in by Milan this summer (19). A midfielder was needed for the tandem, given Kessie’s exit, and once again the Rossoneri made an investment for the future. It will be very exciting to see him in action to earn the buy-out.

Sergino Dest

Deal: Initial loan deal
Fee: €20m option to buy
From: Barcelona

Milan were forced to act quickly after Alessandro Florenzi sustained an injury against Sassuolo two days ago. They will pay Dest’s salary but it’s not a paid loan, which is a bonus. It remains to be seen if he will be included in the UCL squad list.

Honourable mentions

The likes of Alessandro Florenzi and Junior Messias were redeemed from Roma and Crotone respectively this summer. Yacine Adli and Tommaso Pobega also joined the first team after spending last season on loan, while Antonio Mirante signed a new contract with the club.
