AC Milan have officially confirmed that Luka Jovic has left the club after his expiring contract was not renewed.
Milan had the possibility, exactly like a year ago, to unilaterally exercise a renewal option, but they didn’t decide to. The deadline was earlier in the week, and therefore the Serbian striker is now a free agent with his deal having expired.
Luka Jovic leaves Milan
A few weeks ago it felt like Jovic had a good chance of earning a new contract, especially after the Coppa Italia semi-final against Inter. He netted a match-winning brace that earned him a start in the final too.
This led to talk of a potential multi-year extension, an idea that was not followed up, also due to differences on the formula. It is natural to presume that the Serbian wanted more security than having a rolling contract.
Milan have confirmed Jovic’s exit with a post on their social media, writing: “Thank you, Luka! We wish you all the best for the next stage of your career.”
Igli Tare’s response about the striker issue during a press conference earlier in the week was interesting to say the least. He did not play anything down and rather confirmed the intention to help Santiago Gimenez out a bit, but with a totally different profile.

I feel sorry for him
THIS MANAGEMENT IS SO UNGRATEFUL TO JOVIC, USELESS MANAGEMENT AND INCOMPETENT PEOPLE, I HATE THIS MANAGEMENT
Strange choice not to pick up the option, but at least we won’t have the daft situation like last summer where we sign him then try desperately to sell all summer. Thanks for some key goals Luka.
Was a decent back up
Sell him and bring Rui Patricio and Memphis Depay – imagine that – Pulisic – Depay
At this point, you should be served a ban.
Today is a sad, sad day for all milanisti. Luka Jovic is a genius player considering the minutes he was given to play and that he was injured for a large part of season. Also, the portugese coaches heavily favoured Camerda who scored ZERO goals in much more time he was given to play than Jovic, and Abraham as well (thank God he was dismissed too). And I am sure that Jovic is so much better even than Gimenez who will be sold in 6 months and confiremd to be another major flop of incompetent AC Milan management. Someone will get an amazing player when Jovic signs his next contract and hope he will play Champions League this coming season as he deserves it, unlike the AC Milan who literally bullied Luka Jovic by putting useless Camerda to play in Champions league with zero experience, tehn greedy Morata, Abraham and others. Sorry, Luka, it’s not your fault. You deserved so much more but everyone in this club is incompetent so we are doomed to fight for survival in Serie A in next couple of years. Hope you can come back when the management and ownership completely changes! Goodluck whererever you play. You will be missed and we wll follow your games and amazing goals!!!
I believe it’s a sad day to you alone bro.
