AC Milan Women beat Tokyo Verdy Beleza to reach cup semi-final – the highlights

The AC Milan Women started off the Women’s Cup in style as they beat Tokyo Verdy Beleza in Kentucky on Sunday.

Though the Japanese side had the majority of possession and better technical quality, the Rossonere relied on a combination of dogged defending and being faster in transition to beat that side.

Kosovare Asllani was the star of the day as she scored two goals in about 22 minutes for her debut. The first goal of the match, however, came via Martina Piemonte. Lindsey Thomas also deserves praise for her hard work, as she had a few scoring chances and assisted Asllani’s first goal.

Milan will now play in the semi-final of the tournament, against the hosts, Racing Louisville.

Asllani later gave her thoughts on the match after the game, as she stated that, “The past two days have been intense, between my first training session [with the team] and my first few minutes playing for them. The team is fantastic and I immediately felt welcomed here. I’m happy with the win and the goal. Racing Louisville? They are a strong and physical squad and will have the public behind them but I cannot wait to play on Wednesday.”
