Things couldn’t be any tighter at the top of Serie A as AC Milan, Inter, Napoli, and Juventus are all battling it out to be named champions.
As the season begins to draw to a close, all eyes are on who will blink first. For many, it’s Milan who are destined to win the title, and there are many reasons why this could and should be the case.
Now, one of the first places many people will check when trying to work out the Champions elect are sportsbooks offering Serie A betting odds. And, at the time of writing, it’s Inter who are odds on with most operators. They certainly have a chance, as they have a game in hand on their rivals and are only two points adrift. But, Milan not only presents great value where betting is concerned but on the pitch, too.
For a start, Milan are in pole position. Yes, Inter have a game in hand and can overtake them. But it’s often the case that people assume games in hand will always result in three points. And it’s not always the case. Milan leads the way and are unbeaten in their last ten league outings to boot, keeping seven clean sheets in the process.
Milan’s defensive unit has been a crucial factor in their success so far this season. They have been able to build on the foundation knowing that losses they would typically suffer are now turned into draws.
It’s not only had a significantly positive effect on their points tally, but their goal difference too, which is currently the third-highest in the division. Only three teams have conceded fewer, something else which will stand them in good stead between now and the end of the campaign.
We mentioned above how Milan are currently enjoying a ten-game unbeaten run in Serie A, and with just six fixtures left to play, they will be looking to extend this sequence further. The great news is that of the six games they have left, Milan have already beaten four of their opponents once already earlier in the campaign. If they were to repeat the feat, they will likely be there or thereabouts come the end of the season. Milan will also be able to head into these matches confident of securing the three points.
The final reason why AC Milan will be crowned champions this season relates to form. While it’s usually the case that teams perform better at home, AC have won more games and only lost one on the road.
Three of their final fixtures – Lazio, Hellas Verona and Sassuolo – are away games, and this could prove pivotal. You’d expect them to keep up a trend that has been par for the course. And, if they do, they could go one better than last term to lift the title.
