AC Milan history-maker Antonio Donnarumma hails ‘fundamental’ win vs. SPAL

AC Milan sailed through to the next round of Coppa Italia, beating SPAL by three goals to nil at the San Siro this evening. In addition to Castillejo and Hernandez, Piatek also managed to get on the scoresheet.

The win certainly proves that Cagliari wasn’t a fluke, which will help boost the entire team’s confidence. Pioli has managed to get the attack going again, while the defence got a clean-sheet to show for their work this evening.

For Antonio Donnarumma, who started in place of the injured Gigio, the clean-sheet is very important. In fact, he is the first goalkeeper in Milan history to have played at least 300 minutes without conceding a single goal.

After the final whistle, the 29-year-old spoke to Rai Sport (via MilanNews.it) about the Rossoneri’s performance. He also provided an update on the condition of his brother, who seemingly will start against Udinese this weekend.

“We prepared well for the game, it was important to win. We had a great game. We must continue on this path. After Cagliari, this victory was fundamental.

“Ibra brought enthusiasm, he is a wonderful person. He is a champion on and off the pitch, it is a pleasure to be with him. Gigio is well,” he concluded.
