As the official website reports, a delegation from DR Congo – led by Minister of Tourism Didier Mazenga Mukanzu and with the participation of the Congolese Ambassador to Italy Paul-Emile Tshinga Ahuka – met with Chairman Paolo Scaroni at San Siro on Sunday.
They were there to discuss the progress and future prospects of the partnership between the club and the Government of the country. It comes not long after the Rossoneri’s trip to Kinshasa, which highlighted the shared commitment across the various project areas of the collaboration.
In the capital of the DRC – at the residence of the Italian Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo – Dino Sorrentino, Fondazione Milan and Fondazione Mama Sofia presented current and future initiatives to institutions, NGOs, media, and local stakeholders.
During the visit to Kinshasa, the Club also organised a workshop dedicated to sharing the principles, values, and methodologies of the AC Milan Academy project with about 50 local coaches.
In Milan, during the meeting at San Siro, the stadium also hosted an experience dedicated to the culinary culture of DR Congo. This initiative is part of the effort to promote Congolese cultural and tourism heritage, highlighting the uniqueness of the territory and the extraordinary biodiversity of the largest country in Central Africa.
It just feels wierd when a poor country sponsors a pretty big club. It feels like Milan should’nt take their money. But I guess the calculation is that sponsoring Milan will make more italians go to Congo. Which I think is a pretty bold assessment. If this is some kind of sports washing arrangement I feel Milan is in deep water. I know too little about the state of todays DR Congo to be able to say anything. Anyhow feels like a very strange partnership. Just like visit Rwanda felt wierd for Arsenal.
I do sorta recall it was a mix in between talent development and some vacation stuff but not to be rude to Congo but I doubt many would actually want to go there either as its a pretty unstable country to my knowledge and at least they have seen their fair share of tragedy over the years. I wouldn’t go there even if I got a ticket for free to be honest.
