An explanation of AC Milan’s ‘Pulcinella’ display against Napoli

There have been some questions circulating on social media regarding what the meaning was behind AC Milan’s display against Napoli on Wednesday night.

The four-sided effort in the win against Spurs back in February was incredible, yet the Curva delivered again and got the whole stadium involved. This time it paid homage to the seven Champions League titles while ‘THIS IS MILAN’ was displayed down one side of the stadium.

However, what caught the eye most was the hands of the devil about to pounce, with the large banner reading ‘Our destiny is in our hands’ either side. Who is the character in danger? It is actually a specific nod to Naples and the ‘Pulcinella’ which first came about hundreds of years ago.

It essentially translates to ‘little chick’ and was used to indicate an idle and timewasting person, while nowadays it is more used as a theatrical character. On Wednesday, it was obviously used by Milan to indicate that they were coming for Napoli.
