AC Milan currently set to play Coppa Italia game in August – the reason and effects

With AC Milan’s season of undoing, it seems they will play in the early rounds of the Coppa Italia despite reaching the final.

There is a real irony to Milan’s season. The season almost literally ends with defeat in the Coppa Italia final, and next season, it will start with it. For many, Wednesday’s defeat was a point to check out of the season, and the check-in point will be earlier next year.

As Milan News write, the Rossoneri will probably have to play in the early stages of the Coppa Italia, like Napoli did this season, as a result of the Partenopei’s 10th place finish. This is because any club that finishes outside of the top eight is needed to play in the early stages.

Of course, a top-eight finish is still possible, with Bologna still in touching distance (just), whilst Milan host a Monza team who have been very poor this season. However, it will be reliant on the Rossoblu also dropping points against Genoa.

This year, Napoli’s game in the cup happened on August 10, which would also be disastrous for the Diavolo, who will seek additional revenues this summer through their pre-season tour. If they do not reach eighth, they will probably have to cut short the tour. It just keeps getting worse for Milan.

  1. The silver lining here is to get a proper coach that will integrate the youth academy in the first team. Liberali, Bertesaghi, Zeroli, Toriani, should be with the first team and play in those coppa Italia matches

      1. This is a bit of an ignorant comment. If they kept Abate instead of sacking him for not playing Zlatan’s son, things would’ve been so much different. Bonera has been one of the worst people for Milan both as a player, and even worse as a coach. We have a fantastic group of young players but they couldn’t have any consistency from week to week. Bottom line, get rid of zlatan and things will improve.

  2. I love what Zlatan did on the field for Milan. However, Zlatan has been a disaster, and one of the biggest reasons for so many of the things that have gone wrong for Milan off the field. He has no experience with the role he’s currently working in, and his decisions have been disastrous for the club. Getting rid of Maldini was insane. Milan need an Italian coach, and to focus on more Italian players. Calafiori is available. Sign Ricci. Orsolini. Bring back Daniel Maldini. AND HIRE AN ITALIAN COACH. This club has had no identity the last 2 seasons. Also, sell Santi Jimenez. He literally cost us Europe.
