AC Milan should be turning their attention to in-demand PL forward

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have certainly endured a strong season under the management of Stefano Pioli, who has guided the Italian giants to second in the Serie A table heading into the final few months of the 2023-24 season.

Milan have had plenty of positives to shout about this season, and whilst also competing at the right end of the Serie A table, they’ll be keen to come away with some silverware in the Europa League this term.

One player that has played his part in their strong league campaign to date is Olivier Giroud, who has netted 14 goals in 37 appearances in all competitions. The 37-year-old is past his best, but has certainly chipped in with some notable contributions for the Italian side this season.

However, there will be doubts as to whether Giroud is the ideal centre-forward to take AC Milan forward into future seasons, especially given the rumours that he is bound for the MLS.

There are many other stronger options that AC Milan could turn to this summer, and it’ll be interesting to see whether they’re willing to fork out a potentially sizeable amount of funds for the ideal fit for their team.

A striker that could fit their criteria is Brentford forward, Ivan Toney, who has caught the eye for all the right reasons this season, and in previous seasons. The English international has netted four goals in 11 Premier League appearances for Thomas Frank’s side, and he’ll be keen to make up for lost time since returning to competitive football after being ruled out of action through off-field problems.

Toney scored 21 goals in 35 appearances for the Bees last season, as they finished ninth in the top-flight standings, which came as a surprise to most supporters of clubs in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old has adjusted well to the physical demands of Premier League football, and even though he has one year remaining on his current deal with Brentford, it seems as though it’s only a matter of time before he leaves the club.

Toney is priced at 13/8 to join Arsenal this summer, whilst the likes of Chelsea and West Ham are priced up to sign the forward on Paddy Power and Betfair. If you’re a keen bettor, then you can convert those odds into decimals using this odds converter.

Toney hasn’t been shy in voicing his intentions to leave Brentford in search of a bigger challenge, and a move to AC Milan could present him with the ideal opportunity to do just that.

They’re a club that have a considerable amount more history than the Bees, but at the same time, they have the perfect platform for the forward to hopefully take his game to the next level.

Milan are more than likely to be competing in the Champions League next season, and that’s a level that would certainly test Ivan Toney.

The former Northampton Town youngster has improved each year, and you’d be a brave fan to say that Toney isn’t deserving of a move to a club playing European football next season.

Milan should certainly be looking into a potential deal to sign the striker, although they’ll have to be well-prepared for a transfer tussle, as a number of Premier League clubs are rumoured to be keen on a deal to land his signature this summer.

The likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and most recently, West Ham United are the latest clubs to be keen on a deal to sign Toney this summer, although it remains to be seen as to how far along any potential agreement is heading into the summer transfer window.

Of course, Toney is likely to be wanting regular game time wherever he heads to ahead of the 2024-25 season, but you’d imagine that a move to a club with the stature that Milan have could be a tempting move for any player.

  1. He will certainly choose a team that will be in the CL. He’s more likely to go to Arsenal. More money and he’s still in England. Southgate ignores English player in Seria A- hence McGuire over Tomori.

      1. That being said, I’d be excited if he agree to join us – the only slightly undesirable thing is his age, already 28 y.o.

But he is a proper striker… If he can join under 25m and demand reasonable salary I’d take him in a heartbeat.
