In the end, a very poor display from Milan in both phases of the game. So many chances were squandered, and there were acres of space for Udinese to exploit in the Rossoneri’s half.
The Champions League race is definitely at risk now, as Juventus could shorten the gap to just three points this evening. They are up against Atalanta, so it might be worth tuning into that one.

That was not what I expected. Udinese have been lethal in attack, largely thanks to the brilliance of Zaniolo. Milan have also had many chances, but their finishing has been way too poor.
The scoreline perhaps doesn’t reflect the performance, but it’s not unjustified either.

So so close to a third goal for Udinese! Pavlovic with the block in the end but the feeling is that the away side should have scored there.

Great cross for Leao, courtesy of Saelemaekers, but his diving header is not on target. Milan have really had some good chances this half.
Milan’s lack of a striker was really highlighted just now. Athekame in a crossing space, but both Leao and Pulisic were on the edge of the box. Cross sent in, no one there!
Ekkelenkamp with a wonderful header to beat Maignan, but the cross from Zaniolo was just outstanding. Pavlovic could have done better in the duel before, De Winter should have done better with the marking.

First goal was completely Pavlovic’s fault. Guy was jogging back to defence while Barts had to cover for him and leaving his flank exposed.

I think he isn’t a Milan level player. He makes mistakes like this a few times each game.
Of course there is a blame there, but mistakes can be recovered but Pavlovic is playing striker at times and abandoning his position completely. Its ok in a back 3. One thing is to lose the ball another is to lose it when your defender is in the opposite box, you cant do that in a back 4.
You are not allowed to say anything against Pavlovic because he scored a few goals. Now he can leave his player, get dribbled past by the same guy twice in the same attack, be out of position 7 times in 1 half, and he is the best defender on the team. Everybody asked for 4-3-3 from the start. Allegri finally did. Defensive disaster; 0-2 and it could have been 0-4. Maybe there was a point to 3-5-2 which was delivering the best defense in Serie A stats-wise.
Was it really a 433 formation though? Both Pulisic and Leao was playing as a striker. Unless you’re Guardiola playing 433 requires a #9 Santi or Fulkrug should have started intesd of salaemaker. Allegri is done tactically, his expression says everything throughout the game.

well, the “4-3-3 solves everything” argument in shambles today. Not as much as Milan’s defence with 4 at the back mind.
If Allegri wanted 4-3-3, the lineup upfront should have been Puli-Gimenes-Rafa; not Alexis-Rafa-Puli.

Should have been a foul foi us and a red card for Udinese. But yes, he is not a striker. So much better as left winger, and when he finally looks fit again, Allegri again places him out of position.
Bartesaghi too late to approach in their first goal and then deflected the ball out of Maignan’s reach. Then De Winter failed in their second goal.
