AC Milan Women 3-1 Parma: Grimshaw brace ensures win in final home game

The AC Milan Women secured three points in their penultimate game of the season, beating Parma at home on Sunday afternoon.

Milan needed to bounce back after losing the derby 1-0 last weekend, a result that secured second place for the Nerazzurre and effectively brings Milan’s hunt for Champions League qualification to an end. Bakker’s side undoubtedly deserved a better result in that game though, so there was something to build on.

Facing Parma at the PUMA House of Football on Mother’s Day, the Milan Women celebrated by wearing their mother’s maiden names on the backs of their shirts.

The first half ended all square at 1-1 as the two sides traded early goals. First, Milan took the lead with a 14th-minute goal from Arrigoni, then Parma equalised through Manon Uffren in the 20th minute.

Christy Grimshaw decided the match in the second half with a stunning brace. In the 66th minute, the midfielder put Milan back in front, before sealing the win with another goal in the 90th minute.

This concludes the 21st matchday of the league season and Bakker’s side now have 32 points, meaning they are fifth in the standings. However, they can be bumped down a place if Lazio win their game in hand.
