The transfer window has come to an end for this time, with Milan bringing in a total of five signings. Unfortunately, the Rossoneri failed to bring in a centre-back to solve the emergency at the back.
This mercato has certainly been unusual, above all due to the new deadline dates as a result of the COVID stop. Milan got there in the end, though, making a few smart signings for the team. All the figures below are via Transfermarkt.
Brahim Diaz
Deal: Dry loan
Cost: –
As the Sandro Tonali announcement was delayed, Brahim Diaz was Milan’s first signing this transfer window. Being a versatile player, he has been able to slot in straight away in Stefano Pioli’s side, doing very well indeed.
By the looks of it, the Rossoneri will sit down with Real Madrid before the season ends to discuss a permanent deal. In order to avoid complications, they agreed to a dry loan but the intention is to buy him.
Sandro Tonali
Deal: One-year loan
Cost: €10m up front, €15m option to buy, €10m in bonuses.
The midfielder is currently adapting to Pioli’s style of the play and the manager has started to use him more and more. Hopefully, he will continue to grow with the Rossoneri and become a great player. He will earn €2m plus bonuses per year.
Ciprian Tatarusanu
Deal: Permanent, three-year contract
Cost: €500K
The Romanian was brought in to replace Asmir Begovic, who left the Rossoneri after his six-month loan expired in August. This time, Milan decided to bring in an experienced goalkeeper on a permanent deal, locking down the former Fiorentina man.
They had to pay just €500K to Lyon as well, which is a good deal, and Tatarusanu will earn around €1.2m per year until 2023. No complaints about this one, especially given that he already has played in Serie A.
Jens Petter Hauge
Deal: Permanent, five-year contract
Cost: €5m
Following the game against Bodo/Glimt, which confirmed Milan’s scouting reports, they decided to sign Jens Petter Hauge. We were first to report it and the Norwegian winger was announced on Thursday last week.
He made his debut for the club against Spezia on Sunday, showing promising signs of what he’s capable of. Given that he’s in very good physical condition, Pioli could decide to field him quite a lot even at the start. He will earn around €1m per year, it seems.
Diogo Dalot
Deal: Dry loan
Cost: –
Milan had been linked with several right-backs but eventually decided to go with Dalot, striking an agreement with Man Utd for a dry loan. The 21-year-old could turn out to be a very good addition for the team.
Just like with Brahim Diaz, the Rossoneri are expected to negotiate a permanent deal with Man Utd towards the end of the season. That is, of course, if the player performs well with the red and black shirt.
Honourable mentions
It should also be noted that the likes of Simon Kjaer, Alexis Saelemaekers, Ante Rebic and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were redeemed/extended by Milan this summer. They paid €3.5m for the first two, while the price for Rebic remains unknown.
The Swede, of course, was a free transfer as he signed a new contract with the club. As they were already at the club, we don’t consider them new faces. Milan also brought in Pierre Kalulu for free from Lyon, and it remains to be seen if he will play with the first team.
