Adli ‘sorry’ after Dortmund defeat and admits Milan ‘lost our balance’

Yacine Adli has admitted that the ‘details make the difference’ after AC Milan’s chances of reaching the Champions League knockout stages were almost ended by a defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

Milan came into the game against the Bundesliga side knowing that they had to win to put themselves in a good position for reaching the last 16 of the competition, but they were beaten 3-1 and that means a miracle is now needed.

Olivier Giroud’s early missed penalty would set the tone as Marco Reus scored his at the other end. Though Samuel Chukwueze equalised, Malick Thiaw’s injury proved to be a turning point as Jamie Bynoe-Gittens put the away side 2-1 up and then Karim Adeyemi scored 10 minutes later to make sure of the points.

Adli was interviewed by Mediaset immediately after the defeat to Dortmund and he assessed what was a tough night for the team, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“We’re sorry for the fans, today was a great occasion. We knew that San Siro was like this, we had this strength with us and we weren’t able to win,” he said.

“We will give everything against Newcastle, we will try to win but we have a 2-3% chance. We will give everything and hope for a positive result in Dortmund.

“At this level the details make the difference. We started well, but we didn’t score from a penalty. In the second half we also lost our balance with Malick’s exit and we were unlucky. We struggled to find balance.”
