Agent of Atletico Madrid defender confirms Serie A move is possible amid Milan links

Mario Hermoso’s time with Atletico Madrid is coming to an end and the defender’s agent has opened up about the possibility of him ending up in Serie A.

One of the areas that Milan are expected to intervene during the upcoming summer transfer window is in the defensive department, given that injuries have plagued them during the current season and Simon Kjaer’s contract is expiring.

However, other investments will be needed too such as a new striker to be the heir to Olivier Giroud and probably a new central midfielder too, which means the budget may be stretched (net of any big sales).

That is why the idea of seizing an opportunity like Hermoso has come about. Sources in both Italy and Spain have credited the Rossoneri with interested in the 28-year-old, whose deal expires in June.

Hermoso’s agent Inaki Espizua was interviewed by CN24 (via Calciomercato.com) and was asked about the future of his client, including the possibility of it being in Italy.

“Mario Hermoso is a player who is doing very well and who has grown a lot in these five years in Madrid, he is now finishing his contract with Atletico Madrid,” he said.

“It’s not a given that he will go and play elsewhere, but when a contract is signed both parties must have a common project and at the moment we are far from a renewal with Atletico Madrid.

“Mario wants to play in a top league and doesn’t want to discard any options. He wants to play for important trophies and important goals, we’re going to evaluate any project that may come up for the next few years. This is the aspiration of the player.

“Serie A can certainly be a possibility for Mario in view of the next few years. Napoli are among the Serie A teams, those that have attractive scenarios for players. Napoli is a great club, last year they won the Scudetto and have an important history.

“Out of respect for all the clubs in Italy, I don’t want to talk about individual clubs, but Napoli are certainly in Serie A and the Italian league can be a prestigious destination for Hermoso.

“Inter are also a great club, but they exited the Champions League because they left the qualification open [by only winning 1-0 against Atletico in the first leg] and because it is never easy to face Atletico Madrid and the Champions League.”
