Agent confirms Milan are ‘one of the clubs interested’ in Botman: “We will have to wait and see”

By Oliver Fisher -

The agent of Sven Botman has ruled out the idea of his client leaving Lille before the transfer window shuts, and confirmed AC Milan’s interest in a summer deal.

Botman has been the subject of a lot of speculation in the month of January with several sources claiming that Milan and Newcastle United were battling to land the 22-year-old Dutchman, but now that we are deep into deadline day it seems a safe bet that he will not be going anywhere.

However, speculation is still rife suggesting that the Rossoneri are keen on pre-agreeing a deal ahead of June because they strongly believe in Botman becoming the long-term partner for Fikayo Tomori.

Nikkie Bruinenberg – Botman’s agent – spoke to Voetbal International about the situation surrounding his client with MilanNews relaying his comments.

“Yes, Sven Botman will stay in France. He will not leave Lille this winter. There was also a lot of interest, offers were made by different clubs. But they have not been able to meet the asking price, which by the way is not on the table. Lille simply do not want to sell him,” he said.

Is the player disappointed? “No, Sven became champion there and plays in the Champions League. It’s only his second season, in a beautiful club. So it’s not a disaster to stay.”

Are Milan interested? “I can tell you that they are one of the clubs interested. We will have to wait and see where he will play football next summer.”

Calciomercato.com recently reported that Milan worked hard for weeks to try and sign Botman in the January transfer window, but are now ‘well on the way to reaching the finish line’ regarding a summer deal as there is already an agreement in principle over a four-year contract with the former Ajax defender, and a deal worth a potential €33m is being discussed.
