Agent confirms Gattuso wanted Politano during his time at AC Milan

During the January transfer window, AC Milan were heavily linked with Matteo Politano, looking for a winger as Suso left for Sevilla. However, with Ante Rebic and Samu Castillejo stepping up performance-wise, they never signed him.

Instead, the former Inter man ended up at Napoli, who challenged the Rossoneri for his services from day one. As it turns out, former Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso was very keen on bringing Politano to the Partenopei during the winter market.

According to the player’s agent Davide Lippi, speaking to Radio Marte (via MilanNews.it), Gattuso even wanted Politano during his time as manager of Milan. However, Inter managed to get there first, reaching an agreement with Sassuolo.

It remains to be seen if Politano-Milan rumours will resurface once again, although it seems unlikely. By the looks of it, the Rossoneri are heading in a different direction project-wise, looking to revolutionize the squad this summer.
