Agent claims Antonio Conte blocked Spurs defender’s move to Milan

The agent of Spurs defender Japhet Tanganga has claimed that Antonio Conte blocked him from joining AC Milan one year ago.

It was reported back in August of last year that Milan were interested in signing Tanganga to bolster their back line, attracted by the idea that they thought Spurs would let him go and that he can play both centre-back and right-back.

According to his agent Roberto De Fanti, Tanganga has had two transfers to Italy collapse over the last year and one of them was to Milan. Not only that, but he has made the claim that then-manager Antonio Conte vetoed the move.

“His arrival [to Torino] was linked to an exit. The negotiation began when [Alessandro] Buongiorno was about to go to Atalanta,” he said (via SpursWeb).

“[Davide] Vagnati has always had a great passion for Tanganga, a defender who debuted with Mourinho and also played with Conte, who blocked his transfer to AC Milan in 2022.

“It then happened that Buongiorno did not go to Atalanta and the negotiation fell through. In the end, we defined the transfer on loan with the right of redemption to Augsburg, a German club very oriented to take players from the Premier League.”

Tanganga came through the youth academy at Spurs but his career has never really taken off from when Jose Mourinho used him quite a bit during his time there. He is yet to make an appearance this season and has battled injury problems frequently.
