Agent of Chelsea striker Jackson admits he was ‘close to signing with Milan’

Nicolas Jackson could have made the move from Villarreal to AC Milan before he eventually joined Chelsea during the summer transfer window.

Milan went into the summer window that has just closed expected by many to make an investment on a centre-forward given that Olivier Giroud will turn 37 this season and there was a lack of a real alternative in the previous campaign.

A number of different sources – including Fabrizio Romano – stated that Milan were among the admirers of Jackson after a season in which he scored 12 goals in 26 LaLiga games.

It was reported that he had a release clause of €35m, and Chelsea ended up triggering it, signing him on an eight-year contract.

Now, his agent Diomansy Kamara – a former player who is now the agent of Jackson among others – was a guest on ‘Alé Catanzaro’, a format of Uscatanzarocalcionews and he revealed some interesting background.

“He did well and many offers arrived. We were close to signing with Milan, then Chelsea arrived and we went there,” he said (via Calciomercato.com).

  1. Just in time when I wrote about him in the other thread.

The fact that we missed him (Thuram), Jackson (Villareal) turned out to be closer that it was on the news, but we signed Okafor instead, just add more confusion to our strategy in signing a striker. And I haven’t even added the last day’s fiasco. Well, yes, there’s no such thing as a perfect management.

    1. This guy who shot 20 yards away from goal (yes away from goal NOT towards goal) into the stands and missed an open goal last week, you wanted to pay 35m for him?

      lol you are funny

      1. You missed the point. The fact that we aimed for typical striker like Thuram and Jackson, but ended up getting Okafor is an idea of confusion. And nobody knows how much our offer to Jackson, the 35 mil offer from Chelsea might as well be the deciding factor why the deal was in fulls peed. And let’s not judge a player too quickly. We all know what many of the members here said about Thuram (before he even played ’till he played few pre season matches) and yet he made our defense looked like a Milan Glorie and Maignan looked like Kalac on previous match.

Lol you’re funny. But not in a kind of funny.

        1. None of the mentioned players is a striker. All if them are of the same type, playing on the flank, scoring ~10 goals a season on average.

        2. You think we have unlimited money? Still under UEFA Settlement agreement because of stupid Yonghong Li.

They tried to first fix the midfield because it was a mess there, literally no signings were made last year that can compete, then logically the next step was to get rid of the useless wingers we have been stuck with for 3 years now, you already saw the fruits of that in the first games, they will hopefully grow with more games. Chukwueze esp is very exciting prospect

and then the plan was to get a striker in late on because it’ll have been cheaper, no one expected Taremi to behave like that

Not everything always works out and also I rather they spend big on a proper experienced striker like David than gamble on useless prospects like Jackson who atm is playing worse than 41 year old Ibra.

          1. My point exactly. We can spend the budget we utilized on Okafor to someone else. Add the budget of Musah (where it turned out he’d fill another box to box role) and we can get a pretty decent striker.

The striker plan was always one of the first priorities (that’s gone quite wrong). Thuram was one of the first (if not the first) targets of this new management. Turned out Jackson as well. And Taremi was also rumoured from the early days of mercato. We thought that the striker post was all sorted when we silently signed Okafor. But few days later Pioli said that he’s more suitable to play as an LW or SS.

That’s what I called confusion. We know our budget is limited. We just can’t throw away money and hearing the coach said he’s not suitable this and suitable that by the end of the day. We all heard about how Pioli had more power and saying to the previous mercato. Turned out we still had that management – coach missing link.
