In the late hours of Saturday night, AC Milan were dealt a setback in the hunt for a central defender by Manuel Akanji.
There are several irons in the fire for Milan as they look to round off the mercato strongly. However, this appears to be a saving factor for the Rossoneri, as they were dealt a blow to their hunt for a central defender last night.

Several names have been linked, but Akanji’s seemed to be the preference, with the defender also able to help at full-back should it be required, as well as being able to play in a back three, which appears to be Massimiliano Allegri’s preference this season.

However, the Swiss defender will not join the Diavolo. Late last night, Fabrizio Romano reported that the defender had rejected the advances from Italy, as relayed by MilanNews.
The 30-year-old rejected the finances in the deal, despite Milan already having an agreement with Manchester City. Additionally, the fact that he would have to forfeit his ability to play Champions League football had a big effect.
So, as Romano states, the club will now look to other options in the mercato, and it seems that Villareal’s Juan Foyth could be a leading option, as could Joe Gomez, the Liverpool defender.

Why scout in Italy when the players are subpar and overpriced?? Milan needs someone who is an undesputed starter, ahead of Gabbia, Tomori & Pavlovic. I doubt some no-name defender will be the solution…

Foyth could be an excellent choice as well.
My favorite is Christensen from Barcelona. He can also play in a three man defense, as a dmc and add the experience and intelligence that the team needs.

Kim Min-Jae is a top idea but he is too expensive for Milan. I think his salary is even higher than Akanji.
I mean he’s 30 and at the peak of his career of a CB. I wanted him at Milan badly. But can’t force someone to come. Shame really.
Also Foyth isn’t a CB.
And Joe Gomez sucks. I’d rather we not sign someone worse than Tomori.

Whether someone like this or not but this is a huge blow for ACM. It’s not like some super extra class player (Messi, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo or similar class) refused to join one of the best clubs in the history of the game but the player whic is no where near that class and who sits on a bench in another, much worse club that Ac Milan. And I cannot say we didn’t deserve this. It’s all thanks to our completely incapable management. This is more serious than it looks now. And I am sure it will only become worse.
