Demetrio Albertini believes that the Europa League must be an arena for AC Milan’s younger players to shine.
Milan are back on the European stage and they begin with a tough first test against Benfica at San Siro. Both the Rossoneri and the Eagles are among the favourites to win the competition, which adds a certain layer of pressure to things.

This is compounded by the fact that it is the one trophy that is missing from the cabinet, at least in continental terms. To mark the Europa League opener against the Lisbon giants, Milan legend Demetrio Albertini was interviewed by Corriere della Sera.
The former playmaker and metronome of the Rossoneri gave his take on Rúben Amorim’s team. The Italian focused on their prospects in the league and in Europe, the development of young talents, and his personal memories inextricably linked to the club. His words are via MilanVibes.
Tonight, Milan face Benfica…
“A fascinating but tricky match awaits us. Perhaps it would have been better to challenge the Portuguese later in the match, considering that Amorim is still working on finding the right tactical setup.”

What do you think of Ruben Amorim?
“He’s a profile I appreciate and one that piques my curiosity: he brings ideas and a diverse cultural background. With the squad at his disposal, he has many options. I hope he can give space to pure talent and I hope he can best enhance the qualities of a profile like Camarda.”
And Goncalo Ramos?
“We’re talking about a top-class centre-forward, who I’m completely convinced by. His supporters can rest assured: the key will be to consistently serve him in the penalty area.”
The midfield still has Luka Modric…
“Luka Modrić is there, and that alone guarantees enormous depth. During the Gran Gala del Calcio, I had the chance to chat with him and I saw that he was truly committed and enthusiastic about wearing the AC Milan shirt.”
Christian Pulisic took some time to get his debut under Amorim…
“A tournament like the World Cup requires a lot of energy, both muscular and nervous. However, I see him making a clear recovery and will once again be a decisive factor.”

What are your feelings towards Milan even now?
“My support for these colours is visceral. I hope the club can consolidate a solid structure and avoid shaking up the roster every transfer window: identity and a sense of belonging are built progressively over time.”
What should they aim for this season?
“In Serie A, the team has a duty to compete at the top as a protagonist, without abandoning the top positions to secure a Champions League spot.
“At the same time, the Europa League should definitely not be overlooked: it’s a formative test for the younger players, as the international stage instills maturity and self-awareness.”
What are the moments of the greatest emotions?
“The night of my farewell to playing football in 2006, the match between Milan and Barcelona, surrounded by so many champions and fellow travellers.”
