This season, the ambitions have to be high for several reasons. However, a Scudetto fight is a ‘must’ for AC Milan, as Demetrio Albertini states.
Last season, the aims were unreasonably high. In fact, there is probably a very strong argument that Milan probably suffered from the weight of expectation on them, which is understandable considering the disparities.

Throughout the year, the club stated that it was a ‘Scudetto-worthy squad’, yet there was never any proof of such. So, whilst the title slipped further away, the comments looked more ridiculous and other objectives fell away.
Alertini’s view on aims
This summer, a lot has changed, and there is certainly more that would be aligned with a Scudetto-winning team. The midfield, the core of the team, is one of the best in Italy, if not the best. Even if there are questions about the two other areas, they are still strong, as Massimiliano Allegri is proving.
So, Albertini stated to Gazzetta dello Sport that the Rossoneri ‘must’ fight for the Scudetto this season, as AllMilan relays.
“Milan can’t, but must, fight for the Scudetto. When you wear the Rossoneri shirt, you’re forced to aim for the maximum, and to understand what you’re missing the following year. Managing moments during the season is unknown for everyone, but these first few days have shown that the Rossoneri can stay at the top.”
Albertini also discussed Luka Modric and his impact on things.
“Modric has brought calm and serenity to the group. Only a great champion who plays in that role can get his teammates to perform better than expected. With Luka, everything is easier. Both for the youngsters and the newcomers.
“The standing ovation in Udine? It’s happened to Modric several times before, and rightly so, because rivalry is one thing, recognising the value of a champion is another. He has done so much for football and still delights with his play. Modric doesn’t have to chase opponents, but give meaning to the play.
“He needs midfielders who are available, and he dictates the pass. You can’t ask him to have the physical stamina of a twenty-year-old or to run for 90 minutes. But with those feet, he makes the difference.”

While I agree that we had a lot of success with 2 forwards, it doesn’t mean it will guarantee results. Last scudetto was won with 4231. It’s more about getting the players to play as a team and this is exactly what Allegri is doing.
It’s not about formations. It’s about the correct personnel fitting your game plan.
