CM: ‘All Italian auction’ – Napoli and Roma leading Milan in Lucca race

AC Milan spent big money on a striker in January, but there is a possibility that they look to replicate their spending in the summer too.

Despite adding Santiago Gimenez to the squad in the mid-season mercato, reports suggested that Milan were also considering the addition of Lorenzo Lucca with Sergio Conceicao wanting to try a 4-4-2 system.

However, a move for the Italian was not possible, and Joao Felix was instead brought to the club.

Discussions have already begun internally about the summer, and there have been probes about Felix’s future already, but the idea of Lucca is still present at Casa Milan it seems. According to Calciomercato.com, there will be an ‘all Italian auction’ for the Udinese star at the next opportunity.

The Rossoneri, despite adding Gimenez, are still an interested party, but they have fallen slightly in the rankings due to the Mexican’s arrival – though, this could also be linked to the idea of a permanent Felix addition.

Napoli and Roma are also fighting for the striker’s signature, and the report suggests that they are ahead in the proceedings.

It seems very likely that Lucca will move at the end of this season after he accepted Udinese’s request to see out the year, and history tells us that they will only part at the right time for the right fee – which is reported to be around €30 million.

  1. Milan should first decide what tactics and formation will use on a sustained basis, then decide what backup striker they should buy.

    1. Santiago Castro could be more expensive, but he is creative and can play as both CF and winger. So Lucca is not the only option to take a look at. It depends on what tactics the coach will employ.

      1. You should know that Santi Castro will eventually end up at Inter as Lautaro’s replacement. I can feel it. Lautaro will get sold this summer or next, and Castro is a like for like replacement.

        1. Lautaro will not be sold, that’s for sure. I would not be surprised if Thuram moved to PSG or some EPL club though. Time will tell.
Marotta&Inzaghi seem to be interested in Santiago Castro, so he can rotate with Lautaro and Thuram. Whether Oaktree will make the funds available in the summer though, it remains to be seen.

  2. Where would you put Lucca if we have Gimenez? Maybe Lucca should have been the first option, not Gimenez. Lucca is 6’7″, runs and is Italian. Oh well, we’ve committed to Gimenez now.

  3. we’ve Santi, don’t need to spend big 4 a backup, Camarda & someone like Petagna/ Cutrone is enough. cheap, old but not too old, home-grown
